CTE CULINARY STUDENTS EARN SEVERAL HONORS

The Clare-Gladwin Career & Technical Education’s Culinary Arts program has begun 2017 with several high honors for its hard-working students.

“It’s been a great 2017 so far for our students,” said Instructor Heidi Rocha. “Whether it’s performing well against schools of all sizes in the statewide ProStart competition or earning vital ServSafe certifications to expand their career possibilities in the field, these students have worked extremely hard, and these results show that it’s paying off.”

Among the honors earned by these CTE students so far this year:

  • ServSafe Manager Food Safety Certification: Beaverton High School Senior Jimmy Forbes Jr.; Clare High School Senior Makayla Vanslicken; Farwell High School Junior Megan Marhofer; FHS Junior Kaylee Shook; Gladwin High School Senior Cera Rogoszewski; Harrison High School Junior Megan Hadley; GHS Senior Charlie Hair; CHS Senior Grace Shaw; FHS Junior Connor Miller; FHS Junior Gary Vanblarcom; and FHS Junior Hunter Lopez.
     
  • ServSafe Allergens Certification: HHS Senior Lydia Gervase; HHS Senior Harley Hakes; BHS Senior Kathleen White; GHS Senior Aspen McKeever; GHS Senior Bryer Maxwell; and BHS Senior Shantel Walker.
     
  • Michigan ProStart competition: The Clare-Gladwin team placed third in Tabletop Design and fourth in ServSafe Knowledge Bowl. Nutrition team members included Gervase, Hakes, Mackenzie McGarey and Kathy Schimansky; Table Top team members were Maxwell, White, Walker and Hadley; and Knowledge Bowl members included Marhofer, Gervase, Hakes and Hadley.
     
  • Hakes was also recognized individually by the Michigan Office of Career and Technical Education with a Michigan 2017 Breaking Traditions Award Certificate. Hakes was selected from a field of 77 applicants statewide for her accomplishments in a nontraditional CTE program.
