Clare-Gladwin CTE John C. Magnus Center Expansion
Grant Funded from the State of Michigan Labor and Economic Opportunity Department
CTE Expansion Update
Construction has begun on the state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education (CTE) building, thanks to a generous $15 million grant from the State of Michigan's Labor and Economic Opportunity Department. This grant will pave the way for extensive upgrades and expansion at the John C. Magnus Center, benefiting future CTE students from Beaverton, Clare, Farwell, Gladwin, and Harrison.
Magnus Center: From Modest Origins to Visionary Future
Expansion at the Magnus Center will encompass:
New 6500 sq. ft conference center for career exploration, events, job fairs, presentations, and local district/non-profit use.
Cutting-edge kitchen lab for Culinary Arts education will also serve as a venue for student events accommodating up to 300 attendees within the conference center.
Health Occupation Lab, collaboratively designed with input from MyMichigan Health and statewide health partners, featuring a simulation learning lab and pharmaceutical technical training facility.
A production studio and lab for Digital Media, offering hands-on experience in audio, video, animation, and video game design.
Education Occupations will be equipped with an upgraded classroom designed to emulate a high-efficiency learning environment.
A Criminal Justice training facility developed in partnership with local law enforcement and the Michigan State Police, tailored for physical training, crime scene investigation, and hosting student leadership events.
Agricultural Science will enlarge its classroom and lab space to accommodate the expansion of maple syrup bottling and horticulture storage and displays.
Relocating Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology to the existing Construction Trades lab. The refurbished area will offer more opportunities for students to work on semi-trucks, industrial equipment, agricultural machinery, and other diesel engines. Additionally, Mid Michigan College will utilize this space for college and adult learning classes.
Construction Trades will be moved to a new building located west of the Magnus B building. This new facility will feature classroom and lab spaces conveniently situated next to a permanent modular home building pad.
Additional benefits
Increased Flexibility: The expanded space allows for the introduction of new courses, catering to students' diverse interests and career goals. This adaptability ensures that the curriculum remains relevant to evolving industry needs.
Optimized Learning Environment: By reducing transportation time, students can spend more time engaged in active learning in classrooms and labs. This maximization of instructional time enhances the quality of education and better prepares students for their chosen career paths.
Centralized Support Services: Relocating CTE offices to the new building streamlines access to support services and facilitating closer collaboration between students, educators, and staff, ultimately enhancing student success and well-being.
