Hello! Welcome to CTE!

Dear Parents of students enrolled in Clare-Gladwin CTE for the 2021-22 school year:

Hello!

I am thrilled to welcome you and your student to the CTE program for this upcoming school year. Your young adult has taken a great first step toward a productive and successful future by enrolling in our program. Over the next nine months, through his or her chosen CTE field of study, your student will have the opportunity to gain the skills and experience needed to earn college credit and industry-recognized certifications. In short: Students will learn a lot, and they’ll have fun doing it.

You can find the 2021-22 CTE calendar by clicking here. Please note that ALL CTE CLASSES BEGIN TUESDAY, August 31. For the most part, the CTE calendar is similar to your student’s home high school calendar, but there may be dates where your student will be expected to attend CTE classes when your home high school is not in session. Please refer to your high school office for information about these dates.

Here are a few key items that will assist students in their CTE experience:

  • CTE student and staff safety is our top priority - always, every time. Students will be fully trained in safety procedures for their respective programs and are expected to follow all these procedures while attending CTE classes.

  • All home school dress code rules apply at CTE. Students in lab settings may be required to wear closed uniforms, hard hats or safety glasses for safety/sanitary reasons. These will be provided by CTE. Closed toed shoes may also be required and are the responsibility of the CTE student.

  • Students will be provided necessary hand sanitation supplies and will be asked to wash/sanitize their hands upon arrival to CTE.

  • Classrooms, frequently touched surfaces and lab spaces will be properly cleaned after each CTE class session.

  • Students will be expected to self-monitor at home before coming to school and are required to stay at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19-like symptoms.

  • CTE students are required to ride the CTE bus each day unless prior permission has been obtained by ALL of the following: the local school principal, the CTE principal, the CTE instructor and parents. CTE Drive/Ride slips can be obtained at both the CTE main office and your student’s home high school office.

  • The CTE Main Office is located on the Harrison campus of Mid Michigan College in Room 287. Our main number is 989.386.9334.

During the first week of school, your student will be receiving a packet of information and forms that need to be returned to their CTE instructor. These forms include emergency contact information, the CTE Student Handbook, a Technology Acceptable Use Policy and instructions for how to obtain parent access to Skyward for CTE programs. Please complete all information by the expected dues dates and ask your student to return these documents to their program instructor.

Lastly, I want to encourage anyone involved with CTE - parents and guardians, students and everybody in the community - to follow all of this year’s CTE happenings on our social media channels. They include:

I’ll close with this: Research shows that students who attend CTE programs enjoy school more and graduate at higher rates than those who do not. I am confident that your student will also experience this type of success and satisfaction while in CTE. On behalf of the entire staff, we are looking forward to helping your son or daughter start on the path toward an exciting and rewarding future!

Sincerely,
Eric Johnson, CTE Director/Principal
